Fence Post Farm

Purpose

This area is known as the Fence Post Farm. It is a testing site for various treatments and varieties of fence posts that was established by T. J. Starker and has been measured since by Forest Products personnel.

Transmission Poles

Purpose

Thirty ten foot long cedar poles and 29 pressure-treated Douglas-fir poles, 18 feet long. Sprinkled from June 1 to September 30, one hour per day. Cedar poles - to develop above-ground sapwood preservative treatment using low mammalian tox

Effects of Fumigant Protection on Compartmentalization of Wounds by Douglas-fir

Purpose

24 Douglas-fir trees will be selected from the forest and treated with small quantities of soil fumigants injected through the bole. After wounding, the trees will be cut down and examined.

Improving the Performance of Wood Poles

Purpose

A series of pole sections will be treated with a new fumigant. These poles will be evaluated for fumigant movement. A second series of poles will be treated with groundline preservative wraps to evaluate chemical movement in and out of pole sections.
