Population Dynamics of Herbivorous Insects on Young-growth Douglas-fir

Purpose

Shoots to be collected during the growing season from 25 orange-flagged trees along a transect at each site. Arthropods are being identified and counted. Regressions of foliage biomass to stem diameter are being used to estimate arthropod population siz

Trapping of Deermice (Peromyscus)

Purpose

Trapping of adult male deermice (Peromyscus spp.) to compare hind foot size with a riparian population of Peromyscus. The hypothesis proposed is that the riparian zone population will have larger feet as a swimming adaptation.

Population Regulation of Deermice by Parasites

Purpose

Two 150 X 150 M trapping grids will be established with Sherman live-traps at 10 M intervals. At capture, each mouse will be toe-clipped, weighed and sexed. In addition, the occurrence of two parasites (the rodent botfly and the mouse pinworm) will be m
